Over the course of their time at Davidson, members of Episcopal Student Fellowship are given ​the opportunity
​to participate in annual retreats, as well as a biennial pilgrimage to the Taize Community in France. 
​We also do occasional mission trips in the years that we are not doing the Taize pilgrimage. 
​

​In the fall of each academic year (usually in September), we have an annual ESF Retreat in the mountains of North Carolina.  This is an opportunity for us to get away from campus as a group,  enjoy the beauty of God's creation engage in some spiritual formation, and do some planning for the coming year.  The retreat usually takes place at Lake Logan Retreat Center in a gorgeous part of the Pisgah National Forest, southwest of Asheville.

​The biennial pilgrimage to the ecumenical monastery in Taizé, France is jointly sponsored and organized by the Chaplain's Office, ESF, and UKirk. Brother Roger Schutz founded this monastic community in the 1940s as a place of reconciliation and welcome. He sought to foster community, simplicity, silence, and opportunities to encounter a God of love. Today, the monks of Taizé host tens of thousands of young adults from all over the world and all faith traditions, for a week-long experience of spiritual exploration and practice: contemplative worship, silence, and scripture study, as well as casual conversations and daily work alongside diverse peers from many countries and cultures.

The mission trips provide students the opportunity to participate in meaningful outreach projects that reflect Jesus' call to "love your neighbor as yourself".  In recent years  there have been mission trips to Costa Rica, where the Episcopal Diocese of NC has a companion relationship, and to Eastern NC to provide hands-on support to hurricane recovery efforts.  These trips are sponsored and organized by Episcopal Student Fellowship.
